The Record Rack was opened on October 23, 1972 by Stan and Lynn Hartley. Through hard work, the store has developed the best collection of East Coast Beach Music available, representing all the different labels and forms of Beach Music.
Beach Music is a spin of the old Bop, incorporated with swing and rhythm and blues. The music was played all up and down the Southeast Coast from the 50's until the present. Beach Music, or Shag Music, as called by some, is a good time for all.
True Beach Music is a fun-loving and clean music. The dance is a cross between many dances, but similar to the 50's Bop. Some of the artists that are big in this music genre are Maurice Williams & The Zodiacs, Billy Scott & the Prophets, The Platters, and Sammy O'Banion & Mardi Gras. Others include The Embers, The Tams, Band of Oz, Coastline, The Drifters, The Platters, Clarence Carter, Clifford Curry, The Chairmen of the Board and hopefully you'll find your favorite, old or new at The Record Rack, the award winning record store.
